Edge distance (also called "nosing") is the space between the edge of your balcony and the center of the hardware.
Wood / composites / other surface
The measurement is specific to each balcony, but the standard is generally 3" (75 mm) to ensure that the screws anchor solidly into the structure (joists) and not just into the decorative trim.
Concrete or paved surface (4 inches suggested)
Drilling into concrete creates tension. By keeping a minimum of 4" (100 mm) from the edge, you prevent chipping or cracking at the periphery of the slab.
How to measure the edge distance?

1. Locate the structure (under the balcony)
Before marking your line, look under the balcony or use a stud finder. You must identify the joist (the large beam that goes around).
2. Identify your center
Based on your structure and your joists, mark a line for the center of your spigot/glass.
3. Measure inward
Take your measurement from the final outer edge (including the finishing layer if already installed) to your center line. That is your edge distance to enter in the configurator.
The Rampes & Balcons advantage
Our configurator automatically calculates the size of your glass based on this distance for perfect alignment.
