2205 duplex stainless steel is a class of stainless steel materials with a duplex structure, offering excellent corrosion resistance and high strength. 2205 has good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the chemical industry, marine engineering, food processing, and other fields. 2205 is well-suited for environments with high chloride content and for saline water treatment, among others.

2205 is a duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel containing approximately 50% ferrite and 50% aistenite in the annealed condition. 2205 provides a practical solution to the chloride stress corrosion cracking problems encountered with 304/304L or 316/316L stainless steel. Its high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content offers superior corrosion resistance compared to 316/316L and 317/317L stainless steel in most environments. 2205 is not recommended for operating temperatures above 600°F.

The design strength of 2205 is significantly greater than that of 316/316L, often allowing for lighter wall construction. 2205 has good impact resistance down to temperatures below -40°F. 2205 is welded with E2209 or ER2209 fillers.
